Authorities urging compliance as rebuilding efforts begin. Planning officials have announced that owners of coastal structures damaged by the recent bad weather must obtain coastal works permits before initiating repairs. The Ministry of Sustainability and Climate Resiliency clarified that while no fees are required for approval, prior authorisation is necessary for reconstruction, maintaining original dimensions, location, and materials. Unauthorised works may incur fines under the National Conservation Act. The ministry pledges to expedite requests, with processing times ranging from one to two weeks based on complexity and volume.
