Luc Mercelina has been sworn in as Prime Minister and Minister of General Affairs of Sint Maarten, succeeding former PM Silveria Jacobs after the 2024 Parliamentary election. The swearing-in ceremony, conducted by Governor Ajamu G Baly on 3 May, signifies a peaceful transition of power. The election featured 15 contested seats, requiring eight for a majority. Mercelina, a 59-year-old surgeon from Curacao, leads the Unified Resilient Sint Maarten Movement (URSM). The new Council of Ministers includes Veronica C Jansen-Webster as Deputy Prime Minister, and Lyndon CJ Lewis, Marinka J Gumbs, and Grisha S Heyliger-Marten as ministers.
