Starlink gets Cayman ICT satellite licence.
Starlink has become the first company to receive a satellite internet licence under the Cayman Islands’ new regulatory framework. Issued by OfReg, the licence enables Starlink to offer high-speed, low-latency internet across the islands, with full-service availability expected shortly. The move responds to public demand for more reliable and resilient connectivity, particularly during emergencies. OfReg’s new framework supports innovation while maintaining regulatory oversight and consumer protection. Interim CEO Sonji Myles said satellite services will enhance national resilience without replacing existing networks. The licence also opens the door for other satellite providers to enter the market, strengthening Cayman’s digital infrastructure.
