FRANK WARD

Consultant

For the past 3 years Frank has been self employed as a consultant residing in Barbados. Prior to this he held the position of Managing Director at The Rum Refinery of Mount Gay Ltd for a period of 9 years and during this time he was also the Chairman of The West Indies Rum and Spirits Producers Association Inc. Previously Frank held the position of Deputy Managing Director -Operations for The Rum Refinery of Mount Gay Ltd for 7 years. He was employed as the Scientific Services officer for The Caribbean Environmental Health service based in St Lucia for 5 years. He lectured at the University of West Indies for 2 years and was a researcher at the University of Surrey for 6 years. Frank holds a Doctorate and Master of Science degree from the University of Surrey in Toxicology as well as LLB – Law from the University of London and a BSc. Chemistry and Botany for the University of the West Indies.

He has global blue-chip experience with Shell International and wide experience creating brands across traditional agricultural commodity sectors for the benefit of producers in the developing world. His focus through Windward is on establishing brands in commodity sectors backed by sustainable supply chains, helping producers to move up commodity value chains. He has a MA from Oxford University, a postgraduate diploma in marketing and has lived in Barbados, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, the Philippines, New Zealand, Fiji and Brazil. He believes passionately in the potential for the Caribbean and other small island states to improve food security and livelihoods by producing more and importing less.
